Especially when it comes to newborn photography, lighting is SO important. Newborn skin tones can look very different depending on the lighting, and then in-turn be very difficult to edit if not lighted properly. There is so much more to newborn lighting other than sitting your light in the right spot. Oftentimes, we need to adjust our lighting depending on the pose which is something that is usually glossed-over but makes a huge impact. I sometimes travel to other photographers' studios to mentor them and one of the things I consistently notice is that they're not using the correct modifier for their space. I think often-times, photographers see what another photographer is using and assume that is the "best" which it may not necessarily be for their studio space. Wall colors, ceiling height, dimensions, and ambient light also need to be considered when choosing a light modifier. I will also touch on how my newborn lighting differs from other in-studio sessions I do.
